The Cost of Cheap Gas

carhawaiiMany countries around the world subsidize gasoline and other fuels in order to keep gas prices low. Nigeria Egypt and Venezuela are listed among the top countries that subsidize the price of gasoline. In Venezuela 8 percent of the national gross domestic product is dedicated to ensuring that gas prices stay below ten cents a gallon. (That’s cheap!)

Some critics have pointed out that this practice leads to more pollution and only winds up putting more money into the hands of the already wealthy.

Seems to me that if you are going to do this it could be in some way means tested?
